Discovered by Walt Disney at the age of twelve, Annette Funicello was cast as one of the original Mouseketeers. With her singing and dancing background, she became a teen idol, starring in a series of Beach movies with Frankie Avalon. The song “Puppy Love” was written by Paul Anka, inspired by his hopeless romantic crush on her.
She went on to become the spokesperson for Skippy Peanut Butter, to produce a line of collectible teddy bears, and to have her own fragrance called “Cello, by Annette”.
After decades of singing and acting, at age fifty she announced she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, dying of complications from the disease twenty years later.
